Prime Books: 31 Days of Halloween – Day 2

Today’s treat is a FREE downloadable PDF of a classic ghost story: “Ligeia” by Edgar Allan Poe. (Mr Poe is a contributor to HALLOWEEN. His poem “Ulalume” is included.) The story involves beautiful women, forbidden knowledge, passion, death, drugs, and other scary things.

According to John Ward Ostram, (in “Poe’s Literary Labors and Rewards” from Myths and Reality: The Mysterious Mr. Poe), “Ligeia” was first published in the September 18, 1838, edition of the American Museum, a magazine edited by two of Poe’s friends, Dr. Nathan C. Brooks and Dr. Joseph E. Snodgrass. Poe was paid $10 for “Ligeia.”
